Newbie connecting DMX2-24

Ok so I have connected a dmx2-24 for 28v supply (until my 31v psu arrives )
And I have connected the first 50m string of lights to connector cables 1-2 ( this should be the first cable set )
Now in da-tester
They work fine
Full control

if i go into x-lights - it won’t see it as a auto discovery controller - I have to manually set it as USB
Serial com 7 dmx
When I activate it / it’s gets the greennoght showing it sees something

Test mode in x-lights - does nothing - they stay dead

back to the tester software and works still
What did i do wrong on the usb setup ?

What does the usb setup look like?
Did you turn output to lights on?

when i run da-tester - i can get all channels to operate
when i press - Output lights - the USB flickers liker crazy - showing it is trying to communicate - however the data lights on the controller do nothing
so i am assuming the issue is between xlights usb setup and the USB

setup is
PC---USB-slot - USB Dongle - RJ45 Straight through Conenctor --- Ethernet cable ---DMX2-24 --terminator link on pins

My guess is that you have less than 24 channels assigned to dmx in xlights so it is only sending x channels and the dmx2-24 isn't seeing the full 24 channels it requires so tosses the data and waits for a "complete" packet of data.

Changed the usb settings in xlights to DMXOpen not DMX and it now communicates

I can test all and they work

now to figure out how to add each port to xlights layout - so far I added 1 string 1,1,1 but it keeps using turning on everything

so i think i need to close this thread now and open a new one in xlights thread

i create single threas with 1 thre 1 led 1 node -
i just want channel 1 to open to run dumb lights but when ever i do that all lights connected run on the board ?

im using single string - is that wrong for dumb lights ?

i dont hgave any real RBG yet, just dumb kmart and christmas world lights

the 8 settings ones
